Stefán Karl Stefánsson (born July 10, 1975 in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland) is an Icelandic film and stage actor who is best known for playing the character Robbie Rotten on the television show LazyTown.

When Stefánsson was fourteen, he made his first appearance on stage as a guard in Robin Hood. He is a well-known performer in Iceland and has starred in many plays, also appearing in a few films.

He currently lives in San Diego with his wife, Icelandic actress, author and former TV-host Steinunn Ólína Þorsteinsdóttir, and their three daughters.^{[citation needed]}

Stefan Karl Stefansson, the actor who plays Robbie Rotten in Lazy Town is the founder of the Rainbow-children organization in Iceland. As a child Stefan Karl was himself a bullying victim.

It all started with one talk at a student and parent meeting in an Icelandic school few years ago. Stefan Karl Stefansson actor shared his experience as a bullying victim since childhood. These talks became very popular, Stefan connected easily with the children and their parents and school authorities liked his ideas. Soon he became very active doing these talks at different schools as well as doing some consulting in special cases. The talks and a brochure on bullying focus on the shadow side of bullying. Special attention is given to the lasting effects on the lives of the victims in areas such as low self esteem, depression and suicide attempts. All this extensive work was a volunteer work on behalf of Stefan and based on his personal experience. He truly became “the public expert spokesperson” on the subject of bullying and the fight against it in Iceland even though he was just an amateur in the field with a great heart for the problem.

This activity involved doing talks in schools and using media exposure for raising awareness of the problem in community as well as educating people about bullying and its heart felt consequences on its victims and their families. People commonly agreed that Stefan’s work, ideas and the method approaching the problem was effective and the activity attracted a lot of attention in Iceland. Soon Stefan's dream; the idea of starting a formal organization dedicated to raise awareness and fight this problem became more than an idea. The idea was to establish a formal public organization which would provide organized social service in all communities. The objective of these organizations would be to provide information, counseling and education on the subject both in the area of preventive measures as well as providing solutions. The aim is to prevent and solve bullying problems in schools and communities as well as helping victims rebuild their self esteem.

Stefan's extensive work program on bullying was based on three elements. Firstly, he was tireless spokesperson on behalf of bullying victims in all media; secondly he provided unselfish and personal support to individual victims and thirdly he visited schools to talk to students and their parents about the subject of bullying. This activity involved extensive expenses both with respect to work and finances which Stefan had covered himself. In October 2002, extensive media coverage put Stefan Karl and his work on bullying on a national spotlight. This became a turning point for the project. Several companies in Iceland decided to become actively involved and promised to support the program. The main sponsor of the project is the Coca Cola bottler in Iceland, Vifilfell. Other companies contacted Stefan and promised support.^{[citation needed]}
