St Peters railway station is part of the CityRail network. Straddling the border of the Sydney suburbs of St Peters and Newtown, it services a residential and industrial area. St Peters station opened in 1884 with the construction of the Illawarra railway line to Hurstville[1]. The station is located in a cutting, and immediately to the east of the station the tracks pass beneath the Princes Highway. The station has two island platforms each serving two tracks, of which only the western one (platforms 1 and 2) is regularly used as a stopping point for passenger trains. To the west of the station lies an incomplete island platform partially built as a plan to expand the tracks between Sydenham and Erskineville to six but it was never completed and has no tracks. The original platform buildings on platforms 1/2 were demolished in the early 1990s and replaced with modern shelters. This station does not have easy access for wheelchairs. The Clearways Project envisages that St Peters will have six tracks, with stopping trains serving only a newly built western-most island platform.
