Founded in 1791, St Marylebone Church of England School is a multi-faith comprehensive school for girls aged from eleven to eighteen. It is located just behind St Marylebone Parish Church, with some year 12-13 lessons in another building in nearby Blandford Street.
It has been designated a Specialist Arts College by the DfES, and gained an extra specialism as a Mathematics and Computing College in 2006. The school offers artist in residence schemes, workshops, and visits from and to dance companies, and local and national theatres.
In a recent (2007) secondary school ranking, the school came 24th in the whole of England, beating many private schools. Many famous people have attended the school, including Lily Cole. It is one of the most oversubscribed schools in London. The ratio of places and subscriptions is 1:120. Unlike other schools, St.Marylebone School pupils take their Key Stage 3 SATs in year 8 and not year 9.
