Springfield Union Station is an Amtrak station in Springfield, MA. The station was built in 1926 by the Boston and Albany Railroad to serve the many rail lines feeding into the city.^{[citations needed]} It was the third such station to occupy the area.^{[citations needed]} In the 1970s, the main building was condemned.^{[citations needed]} Amtrak constructed its own modest facility on track level.^{[citations needed]} A currently stalled plan to renovate the building and bring bus service to the station has been in the works for several years.^{[citations needed]}
