South Sound Center

South Sound Center, formerly South Sound Mall, is a power centre located in Lacey, Washington. Its major stores include Target, Sears, and a Mervyns which closed in 2006. The Mervyns location will be replaced by a Kohl's in 2007. Prior to a re-development in 2001, the center was a 500,000 square foot enclosed mall.^[1]

South Sound Mall opened in 1966 and was billed as the fourth regional shopping center in the state of Washington.^[2] Anchors at one time included Pay 'n Save, Nordstrom Place Two (closed in 1994^[3]), Peoples (1966-1983, which later opened as Mervyns in 1984), Sears, and Woolworth. After many stores in the mall moved out and the closing of the last Woolworth store in the state of Washington in 1997,^[4] the enclosed mall portion was torn down in 2001 for a Target store between Sears and Mervyns.
