[edit] Image Tagging Image:Gold_Hill,_Shaftsbury,_Dorset,_England.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Gold_Hill,_Shaftsbury,_Dorset,_England.JPG. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. -- Carnildo 05:20, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi, is the Sandbanks ferry picture your own work? The flickr page has it tagged as non commercial use only, which Wikipedia unfortunately can't comply with. Joe D (t) 04:05, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about the confusion over the licenses, all the pictures I've uploaded are my own work, I didnt realize that I needed to license them as non-commercial, but I will change them to comply. - skez

[edit] help! Image:Dewey_Bridge_Fire_4-06-2008.jpg

Is it possible to delete the large version Dewey Bridge fire image? i didnt intend to upload the high resolution version when i was adding it, i already added the smaller version which is what i had meant to do the first time. -thanks!

[edit] Help with images

Skez, First thanks for giving that image. Awesome. I saw it on your blog and had been meaning to ask if Wikipedia could use it. To answer your question... what are you trying to do? Wikipedia would prefer that you upload the highest resolution file you have. It can easily be scaled down using wiki markup language. If it is because you are not comfortable licensing a high resolution image, you a couple of options. One of which I can do for you if you'd like.

  1. - I can request the newer version be moved to the commons. By moving the image to wikimedia commons it is accessable to all wikipedias, not just the english language wikipedia. Once it is moved to the commons, the one you uploaded to the english language wikipedia will be automatically deleted.
  2. if you do not want your image moved to commons (i.e. only want it accessible in english) you can request that an admin delete the old version. If you aren't buddies with any admins, I can try to ask one to do it for you ( I am not an admin).

Thanks again for uploading the pic. For the record my preference is moving the image to commons, and I can do that for you if you want. Davemeistermoab (talk) 03:26, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] images

Thanks for replying, I just dont feel comfortable with having the full resolution image under the creative commons license but i definitely want it on wikipedia. If you can move it to the commons and have only the lower resolution version on there then that would be perfect! thank you for your help!

OK I'll start the process to move it. They normally let both images sit for a day or two before deleting the old, but I'll request a speedy deletion.
For the record you are right to be concerned. My image of the Dewey Bridge used on this article has been lifted and used here [1]. This is illegal as I released the image under the terms of the GFDL which says they can use the image if and only if they attribute the author and provide a link back to the original, among other things. They have not done either. I have sent them an email requesting attribution and am discussing other legal options.Davemeistermoab (talk) 03:42, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks again for your help. On a personal note I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the bridge burning, it was just an unbelievable sight. I got some pretty spectacular images of it burning, the one I uploaded made it to the front page of one of our local newspapers and another I took is in the Moab times, It was even on TV in Denver. If I knew what I was doing I probably could have made some money off of those images but I really didn't. The local newspaper loves me now though so I may see some gain from this in the long run. Pretty sad to see it go nevertheless, it was a piece of history. Skez (talk) 03:49, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Done. The version of your image on commons is visible here [2]. Now I'll hunt down an admin to speed up the deletion of the original.
On a more personal note, I'm shocked too. If you couldn't have guessed from my username, I'm from the area. All I can say is I hope it gets rebuilt. So tragic a bridge survives 100 years of snow, wind, rain, termites, use and abuse to go down like that. I hope the newspapers at least attributed you for the use of your photos. Thanks again.Davemeistermoab (talk) 03:58, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Ok found an admin. They will delete it provided you edit the image page (Image:Dewey Bridge Fire 4-06-2008.jpg) and include the following at the top of the page {{db-self}}. This is a formal way granting your permission to the speedy deletion.Davemeistermoab (talk) 04:10, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Everywhere I've found it so far has attributed, but its a bit of a job trying to keep the spread of it under control, it was under quite a bit of demand for a while there. Thanks again! Shoot me an email if you're ever in Grand Junction (especially if you mountain bike/hike) Skez (talk) 04:12, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunately I don't get to Moab near as often as I'd like to. I miss it dearly. Still waiting for you to add the speedy deletion tag to the image. May want to hurry while I've still got an admin handy that says he'll do it =-)Davemeistermoab (talk) 04:16, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

sorry didnt realize i needed to add it, guess it helps to pay attention! Skez (talk) 04:18, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

OK Done. Please check to see everything looks just the way you want it. Images from commons are linked to articles the same way any others are, by adding Image:Dewey_Bridge_Fire_4-06-2008.jpg to the article text. The only difference is now this code will work in all wikipedia projects, not just the english wikipedia. For the record the admin who did this was User:Rschen7754. Davemeistermoab (talk) 04:24, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Yep everything looks perfect, I appreciate your help and tell Rschen I said thanks! Skez (talk) 04:28, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

No problem. And the next time I'm in Moab, I may take you up on that. I'm not a pro biker, more of a wannabe, but I do have a mountain bike and do ride it when I'm around. I was last in GJ last October, so I do get there occasionally.Davemeistermoab (talk) 04:35, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

let me know for sure, we've got tons of great trails out here and they're building more all time time Skez (talk) 04:37, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
