Sir John Yonge, 1st Baronet

John Yonge of Colliton (October 2, 1603 - August 26, 1663), later Sir John Yonge, 1st Baronet, was son of Walter Yonge of Colyton and father of Sir Walter Yonge II. Yonge married Elizabeth Strode and had two children:

Sir John was a well established merchant in England. In 1642 he was elected to Parliament as member for Plymouth, joining his father (who was already MP for Honiton) in the House of Commons. In December 1648 he was one of the members excluded in Pride's Purge, but returned in the Parliaments of the Protectorate, sitting for Honiton in 1654 and Devon in 1656. After the Restoration he was again chosen for Honiton in the Convention Parliament of 1660.
On 26 September 1661, he was created a baronet. He died two years later, his son Walter inheriting the title.
