[edit] Any opinions on "he" vs. "she" in article?
As a woman of transsexual background myself, the use of "he" and "him", or words such as "fathered" are incredibly offensive, and very hurtful as well. These terms would be the equivalent of the "N" word for people of colour, or of a word such as "invert" or "faggot" for homosexuals. Please do not ever use these words to describe us.
On a personal note, I can't understand why on earth Siobhan Meow allows herself to be humiliated in this fashion... Even for all the money in the world, I could never allow someone to treat me like that, and none of my sexual partners have ever considered my vagina to be anything other than loveliness itself. I have discussed my medical background with most of my sexual partners some time after our first sexual experience (which usually includes my partners going down on me), and they were unaware of my past medical history until I revealed it to them. My previous partners include women as well as men, so I really don't understand all of this "open wound" business or the two men losing their erections. :( By Siobhan (A different Siobhan), 10th October, 2007.
This article was written always using the pronoun "she", presumably as that is Siobhan's preference (and politically correct), but it was changed to "he" as Stern uses this more often. I'm on the fence myself and would lean towards "(s)he". Foday 07:15, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Transgenderism is a recognized medical condition, the results of which, define a person legally as the gender assumed following surgery. It is offensive to transsexuals to continue referring to them using adjectives of their previous gender. Stern capitalizes on this to generate negative responses from his audience; however, from a legal standpoint, Siobhan is now a female and should be referred to using the feminine pronouns. man17018 05:05, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
I understand what you are saying. Her legal status would be female and it would make sense to acknolwedge that in the article. I would however like to add a statement that Howard refers to her as a "guy" and "dude" and also change "genetic parent of two daughters" to "She fathered two daughters" because that would be an appropriate statement. krocker3 07:30, 4 July 2006
- While I changed the article to use "she", I did leave in a statement about Stern referring to Siobhan as a male. Foday 23:59, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi! This is Siobhan Meow herself here to state that I personally have no problems at all with this page. While physically and legally I am a member of the female gender now (thanks to hormonal and surgical intervention) I was, none the less, born a biological male, sired two beautiful daughters and am still in possession of the XY karotype. In fact, my skeletal stucture will always be male as well, since I started my hormone therapy far too late in life to successfully alter it. As for my inate femaleness, all I can do is testify that I have always considered myself a girl since early childhood despite the genetic configuration of my body at that time. The question of nature vs nuture in the puzzle that is gender identity "disorder" is yet to be empirically resolved. I tend to believe that women such as myself are created by a combination of both of these factors yet would be delighted if science could produce an actual genetic marker for my condition. I believe that the sooner in any gender dysphoric child's life medical and surgical intervention can be implemented, the better it will be for that individual and the less suffering they will have to endure at the whims of a bigoted and prejudicial society. I look forward to the day when advances in stem cell technology make it possible for women like me to generate our own wombs and become enabled to bear children. A huge source of personal pain for me has always been being denied the single most important reason for being born female in this world, that is, to conceive and carry into fruition the life of a brand new human being. There is another difficulty in my life that I am dealing with now which is the direct result of being born a transgendered child at a time when this culture's deep rooted ignorance and prejudice concerning my condition caused me great harm. I am dealing with the fact that I have what is known as Dissociative Identity "Disorder" (I prefer "Defense Mechanism" to "Disorder"), a result of being abused and neglected as an infant and also of having to create a male persona to interact with my parents, teachers and peers while growing up. I was subjected to constant verbal, psychological and physical abuse throughout my childhood. This led me to create "alter" personalities to protect myself. I can discuss this development in greater detail with anyone who is interested if they email me at siobhanmeow@yahoo.com . I do know that the sooner gender dysphoric individuals receive hormonal and surgical intervention in their lives, the better off their lives will be. I can't stress that enough. Fortunately, as society's attitudes towards this condition relaxes, we will see people being treated earlier and earlier in their lives for this affliction. Already I notice a new, younger generation of transgendered people flourishing and healthy at an age at which it would have been impossible for me to do so because of the timing and placement of my birth and its subsequent lack of psychological, medical and societal understanding and technology in those times. As for The Sern Show and Howard's constant referral to me as "guy", "dude", "he", "him", etc. My interaction with Mr. Stern on air is quite the opposite of his attitude towards me off the air. I have never been treated with anything but the utmost respect, kindness and consideration by Mr. Stern and his staff in my personal life. During our "On Air" interactions we engage in the rude and raw vulgarities that make this comedy talk show so popular. We are basically ridiculing the hypocritical, hung up, corrupt and dishonest mores of this country's culture and society. There is a huge contextual difference between Mr. Stern calling me "he" during one of his "bits" and some bigot living in my building using the same term towards me in an attempt to cause me pain or put my life in jeapordy. Well, I hope this clarifies some of your questions about me. As I mentioned above, should you have anymore, feel free to email me at siobhanmeow@yahoo.com and I shall be happy to answer them (to the best of my ability) for you all. Love, Siobhan Meow
