The Singapore Cruise Centre (abbrev: SCC; Chinese: 新加坡邮轮中心) is a cruise terminal located in the south of Singapore in the vicinity of HarbourFront and in Keppel Harbour. Built in 1991 and upgraded in 1998 by the then Port of Singapore Authority, it comprises two terminals, namely the International Passenger Terminal (IPT), and the Regional Ferry Terminal (RFT). The Singapore Cruise Centre Pte Ltd took over management of the centre on 1 April 2003 with the incorporation of PSA International.

Today, the centre handles over 8 million cruise and ferry passengers a year, of which about 700,000 are cruise passengers. It is the base terminal for Star Cruises's largest ship, the SuperStar Virgo.

[edit] Facilities

The RFT has six berths and caters to maritime traffic to the nearby destinations of Batam, Bintan and the Karimun islands of Indonesia, as well as the islands of West Coast Peninsular Malaysia, namely Tanjung Balai and Tanjung Batu.

The IPT handles international cruise ships, and has two berths of 310 metres and 270 metres in length respectively. With a draft of 12 metres, it can handle most of the largest cruise ships in operation today. It underwent an upgrade in 2005 to improve on its passenger handling facilities.

[edit] Expansion

With expected growths in the Asian cruise industry, plans were announced in 2003 to relocate the cuise centre to a new site in Marina South. Work will begin on the new International Cruise Terminal in June of 2008 and it will be completed in 2010.

It was also projected that the centre will reach its capacity by 2008, and the SCC has proposed building a T-shaped berth to allow for the simultaneous docking of three to four ships at its current location[1].
