Regarding translation:

Sim Su Bong said, "At the time when I first met president Park Chung Hee, I sang Misora Hibari's Ganasiyi Sake as the first song; the reason I sang that song is because people around suggested [or advised] that I sing it. In the newspaper article, it says that President Park heard that song and said "Are you Japanese" affably [he liked it], but that's not the truth", she revealed.

Sim Su Bong continued, "As soon as the song ended, President Park yelled [or abruptly said], "Where did you get the Japanese girl," and became angry. When I continued with the songs [two korean songs], only then did he realize that I was a Korean singer, and showed apology [or regret], and became affable [he liked it].

Notes on translation:

좋아했다 simply means "liked" but is hard to translate in the context of the above sentences, where the affable emotion is shown at the same time as another verb action, and there is no clear object of the verb "to like".

어디(where) 서(from) 왜(Japanese) 년(girl) 을(object operator) 데리(bring) 고(and) 왔(came) 느냐(question ending): 왜 is a possibly derogatory term for Japanese, and 년 is a usually mildly derogatory term for girl or woman. However, both terms were used historically in nonderogatory ways, and 년 is not the same as "bitch." "개년" (dog woman/girl) has roughly the same meaning and vulgarity as "bitch," and not something the President is likely to have said.

The current translation implying that Park liked it when he thought Sim was Japanese, is completely wrong, and opposite of the linked article's wording. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chuniac (talkcontribs) 21:53, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
