Simmons & Company International is a private investment bank based in Houston, Texas that specializes in energy research, trading, and capital structuring. It was founded in 1974 by Matthew Simmons who was motivated by the 1973 energy crisis to create an investment banking firm catering to oil companies.
Currently employing approximately 150 individuals, Simmons & Co. International has offices in London, England, Boston, Massachusetts, and Aberdeen, Scotland. As of the end of 2005, Simmons & Co. has provided financial advice in roughly $77 billion worth of transactions, with the majority of its focus towards M&A transactions.
Clients of Simmons & Co have included large energy companies such as Dynegy Incorporated and El Paso Corporation, as well as smaller regional firms.
