Sierra Norte de Puebla

The Sierra Norte de Puebla – known simply as the Sierra Norte by locals – is a mountain chain that makes up the southern end of the Sierra Madre Oriental in Mexico. It is approximately 100 km long, with a width ranging up to 50 km. It covers the northern part of the state of Puebla and also extends into the state of Hidalgo. To the east it borders on the Gulf Coastal Plain in the state of Veracruz, and to the west and south with the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. The Sierra Norte ranges in heights from between 1500 to 2500 metres above sea level.
In the broader sense, Sierra Norte de Puebla is used as a socio-cultural designator to indicate this mountainous region. The indigenous people of the region include Nahuas, Otomis, Tepehuas and Totonacs.
