[edit] Biography
Shot Down Sun formed in November 2001 as Alex Aro on vocals, Jimmy Lantagne on guitar and Matt Feugill on bass. The band performed twice before Eric Beaubien joined as the drummer. Originally influenced by the likes of Spineshank, Sevendust and Deftones, the band played shows throughout 2002 and 2003, releasing various live EPs.
In April 2004 the band recorded the "Seven EP" at Son of the Seventh Studios in Haverhill, MA. On the EP, the band had changed their style to a heavier sound. Scott Ferguson joined the band soon after and in September 2004 the band recorded the "Portrait of a Bleeding Memory EP", which became an add on to the "Seven EP".
In March 2005 Ben Gostanian took Scoot Ferguson's place and in September 2005 Jimmy Lantagne left the group to be replaced by Myles Kimball. In March 2006 the band entered Vital Studios in Salem, NH to record its first full length "The Human Design". The album was self released in July 2005.
The band signed to Crash Music Records in August 2005 and the label re-released "The Human Design" on January 23, 2006. The album featured an extra track titled "I'm Not Dead".
Shot Down Sun is now currently unsigned. Guitarist Max Lee also left the band recently and joined the band Armor for the Broken.[citation needed]
[edit] Influences
The band members state some of their main influences include As I Lay Dying, A Life Once Lost, Opeth, The Agony Scene, All Shall Perish, The Faceless, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Job for a Cowboy, and Mortal Treason[citation needed]
[edit] Break Up
On April 15, 2008, Shot Down Sun posted a blog on their MySpace that says:
Hey everyone,
We're sure there are a lot of you that are disappointed about the cancellation of the Haverhill. We are as upset as you are. Here's an explaination for why this happened:
Basically what it comes down to is the same problem we've had for the past few months, which is our drummer Eric. As of right now he won't even talk to any of us and we aren't sure exactly why. He told us he wouldn't play the last shows and cut all communication. Luckily Alex Conway stepped up to the plate and was willing to learn some songs for us.
So as unfortunate as it is the show this friday at Rocko's in Manchester will be our last performence. We hope those who were planning on the Haverhill show will be able to instead make it to this one. We want to see as many faces as we can. The other sucky thing about this is we won't be playing as long of a set as we originally intended. Again, we will have all of our merch for very, very cheap.
We want to thank all of you for sticking by us, even through all these shitty situations. We apologize sincerely for this (and for all the other previous show cancellations throughout 2007) and the only reason things are this way is because of our drummer. We don't think he realizes exactly how many people he affects by his attitude, but we just want to once again thank all of you for sticking by us.
So with that said, please, please, please come out this friday to see us one last and let's have some fun. We just want to play one last time and get lots and lots of hugs.
We love each and every single one of you, and it truly is a shame that one person ruined this for everyone.
Thanks, SDS
