[edit] Education

She went to the SHAPE High School in Mons in Belgium, then Barne Barton Secondary Modern school in St Budeaux and Stoke Damerel High School for Girls (now Stoke Damerel Community College) in Devonport, both in Plymouth. She studied for a BSc in Geography whilst at St. Aidan's College of University of Durham, being taught by David Bellamy, and graduated in 1981.

[edit] Career

She wrote and worked on women's weekly magazines, being deputy chief sub-editor of Bella, senior sub-editor of Chat and chief sub-editor of Woman. Since 1997, she has been an MP for Cleethorpes, and is currently a Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Minister of State within the Department of Health.

McIsaac was elected as a councillor to the London Borough of Wandsworth, before her selection for Cleethorpes from an all-women shortlist, attracting a great deal of local press attention in the run-up to the 1997 general election.[citation needed]

On polling day, McIsaac spent most of the day knocking on doors in the town of Immingham, formerly the strongest Labour supporting area of the constituency.[citation needed]

McIsaac and neighbouring MP Austin Mitchell tabled an early day motion in 1998 affirming support for Grimsby Town Football Club's trip to Wembley for the 1998 Auto Windscreen Shield Final and the 1998 Nationwide Division 2 Play-Off Final. She has also proposed a bill limiting the use of fireworks, and supportive of anti-fox hunting measures.

She is not currently able to propose any early day motions on the account of her Parliamentary Private Secretary status. McIsaac presently serves that role for Health minister Caroline Flint MP.

McIsaac has been described as a 'government loyalist'. According to the website TheyWorkForYou.com, McIsaac rarely rebels against the Government. She supported the Government in the vote on the war in Iraq.[citation needed]

[edit] Majority

McIsaac was narrowly re-elected at the 2005 general election. Her majority has diminished progressively at the 2001 and 2005 general elections.
