Shepherd's Bush is a name used for a number of current, former and future stations in the Shepherd's Bush area of west London.

[edit] Former stations

The first Shepherd's Bush station was opened by the Metropolitan Railway in 1864 adjacent to Shepherd's Bush Market. It was closed in 1914 and replaced by the Shepherd's Bush Hammersmith and City Line station to the north and Goldhawk Road station to the south.

The London and South Western Railway opened its Shepherd's Bush station in 1869 on a loop line that connected the West London Line to the Hammersmith and City Line and its tracks to Richmond (now the District Line). The station was located on the west side of Shepherd's Bush Road (A219) at the junction with Sulgrave Road. It closed in 1916.

[edit] Current stations

The name is currently used for two London Underground stations:

The Hammersmith and City Line station is due to be renamed Shepherd's Bush Market to eliminate confusion between the two.

[edit] Future station

Shepherd's Bush is also the name of a new London Overground station which is currently under construction on the West London Line. Due to its proximity to the Central Line station, it is planned that the two stations will form an interchange (as can be seen on this projected 2010 tube map). The new station is located close to the site of the closed London Underground station Uxbridge Road.

[edit] Local stations with other names

Other former or current stations in the Shepherd's Bush area but with different names are:

  • White City - on the Central Line
  • White City - a closed station on the Hammersmith and City Line
  • Wood Lane - a closed station on the Central Line
  • Wood Lane - a new station being built on the Hammersmith & City Line
