[edit] Stub Expansion

I'm working on expanding this stub. While the version that I have is not complete, it is online on Wikipedia and is therefore eligible for editing. If you wish to improve, expand, or otherwise positively modify the version that I'm working on, go ahead: it's here Nihiltres 05:32, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

What you've got up there is great! I'd say, post it, then change it if anyone objects.12.17.189.77 00:26, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
When it's finished, I'll post it. The summary, however, is far from complete, and I need to finish that off, not to mention the section detailing the various Overlords and creatures present in the story. Thanks for the compliment. Nihiltres 03:00, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

I just need to finish the summary and wikify some small bits (character stuff!). If I can get some help (especially as I just self-diagnosed as having carpal tunnel syndrome, and can't find either of my two copies of the book) I can post this faster. If you see this message and know the book, please help; I want to get this onto the main space. Nihiltres 03:38, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Revert

I have reverted 24.70.95.203 (talk · contribs)'s edits becuase it could have unverified claims. Someone might wish to look at the history and see if they are, in fact, true. Kilo-Lima|(talk) 15:04, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

They look right to me. I assume your issue is with the section saying "Larger male children are given steriods and then their muscles are harvested as well as their brains. Some females are allowed to live until the age of 16, but only so they can increase the stock of human product." These latter is mentioned in Shade's interview with Ninde, page 23 in my book (which may or may not do any good): "Of course, some people used to say the girls that got taken away for breeding got an extension to sixteen... or even eighteen...". As for the former, it is mentioned throughout the book that some children are selected to receive physical training and steroids in order to grow muscles for Myrmidons, but it does not specifically say that only males are selected. As for verifying the claims, well... there aren't many secondary sources around, and we can't exactly link to the primary source. The section on characters looked OK as well, but probably ought to be organized differently.

[edit] number of pages?

I just changed the number of pages reported for the first edition hardback from 320pp to 310pp. I found that my hardback edition, which had an identical ISBN number to the first edition hardback as currently listed, had only 310 pages, suggesting that the 320 was a typo. If you have evidence for or against this, I would appreciate either a confirmation of my results or proof that the true value is 320. Thanks, Nihiltres 04:45, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:GarthNix Shade'sChildren HB.jpg

Image:GarthNix Shade'sChildren HB.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 10:35, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

All article images now have proper fair-use rationales. Nihiltres(t.c.s) 17:46, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Leaming

Didn't Leaming say he was a scientist, working on the new radiation he found? and blaming Robert for trying to steal the research? I'm not sure he was just an AI and not another uploaded conciousness —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.69.219.49 (talk) 23:01, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Leamington is described by Shade as an artificial intelligence, rather than an uploaded consciousness. It's possible that Shade is lying, especially given that Leamington accuses Robert Ingman of stealing his research, but that's hard to evaluate. Nihiltres(t.l) 14:18, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ninde - Gold-Eye relationship

The article states that Ninde and Gold-Eye had sex on one occasion, but as far as I am aware they never have sex during the book's chronology. They almost have sex in the emergency cache on the train, but decide against it since they have no contraception. Is this a mistake? BMHBrown (talk) 13:25, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Heh. The book's quite ambiguous on this one, so it's probably best to remove that. I'll fix it. Nihiltres{t.l} 17:00, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
