Sharpe, Paley and Austin

Sharpe, Paley and Austin were the surnames of five architects who worked either alone or in partnerships in one practice in Lancaster, England. They were Edmund Sharpe (1809–77), Edward Paley (1823–95), Hubert Austin (1845–1915), Henry Paley (1859–1946) and H. A. Austin. The working dates for the individuals or partners of the practice are as follows.[1]
- Edmund Sharpe (1836–45)
- He started the practice alone in 1836.
- Sharpe and Paley (1845–51)
- Sharpe was joined in 1845 by Edward Paley as a partner.
- E. G. Paley (1851–68)
- Edward Paley then continued alone until he was joined in partnership by Hubert Austin.
- Paley and Austin (1868–86)
- This partnership continued until they were joined by Edward Paley's son, Henry.
- Paley, Austin and Paley (1886–95)
- This continued to the death of Edward Paley.
- Austin and Paley (1895–1914)
- They were joined by Hubert Austin's son, H. A. Austin in 1914.
- Austin, Paley and Austin (1914–15)
- Hubert Austin died the following year, 1915.
