Seven sisters (studios)

The seven sisters of the Hollywood film industry were the major movie studios of the period between the early 1980s, when the Walt Disney Company's Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group emerged as a major, and 2005, when MGM was acquired by a consortium including Sony Pictures Entertainment. The seven sisters were:
- Columbia Pictures -- now part of Sony Pictures Entertainment, part of the Sony conglomerate
- Walt Disney Pictures/Touchstone Pictures -- part of The Walt Disney Company conglomerate
- 20th Century Fox Film Corporation -- part of the News Corporation conglomerate
- Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer -- now owned jointly by Sony and Comcast
- Paramount Pictures -- now part of the Viacom conglomerate
- Universal Studios -- now part of NBC Universal, part of the General Electric conglomerate
- Warner Bros. Pictures -- now part of Warner Bros. Entertainment, part of the Time Warner conglomerate
