Seven Little Fortunes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Seven Little Fortunes (Chinese: 七小福 Chat Siu Fok), sometimes known as The Lucky Seven, were a group of top martial arts students of the China Drama Academy Peking Opera School in Hong Kong in the 1960s. Students were as young as 7 or 8 years old, as they travelled and showed their acrobatic and acting skills to domestic and western audiences in theatres and venues such as Laiyuen Amusement Park. They were also sent by the school to work for movie studios as extras. The troupe consisted of more than 7 children (some estimates say 14), but only 7 would appear in each performance.
Some famous members of the Seven Little Fortunes include Hong Kong action cinema actors Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao, Corey Yuen and Yuen Wah.
Whilst attending the opera school under the tutelage of the Sifu Yu Jim Yuen, the students all adopted their Sifu's given name "Yuen" as their family name.
