[edit] Fenerbahçe Years (2000-05)
Mustafa Denizli, the coach of the team at that time, transferred Serhat as a young star from Germany. Serhat gained an immediate success in his first year in Turkey. He was playing in the forward position next to Kennet Andersson but after a year, both Kennet and Mustafa Denizli left the club. After that, Serhat worked with different attacking partners and coaches until the summer of 2005 (and sometimes played as a right-winger). He won three league titles with Fenerbahçe.
[edit] RSC Anderlecht and 1.FC Koln (2005-2008)
In 2005, Akin joined the Belgian R.S.C. Anderlecht. He continued his winning ways winning the 2005-06 Jupiler League. He currently wears the number 24 jersey for the Mauves, with the number 9 jersey with the more senior Mbo Mpenza
However in the winter transfer window or 2006-07, he was loaned out to Second Bundesliga side 1.FC Koln due to the lack of opportunities, being down the pecking order behind Nicolas Frutos, Mohammed Tchite and Mbo Mpenza. He received further setback in the 2006-07 season when he had stomach injuries, which kept him sidelined for half a year. Anderlecht. However with the transfer of Tchite, and the injury to Frutos in the early part of the 2007-08 Jupiler League, Akin has returned to the starting XI of Anderlecht. He has repaid his manager's Franky Vercauteren faith, scoring 2 vital goals in the UEFA Cup tie against Rapid Vienna, sending the Belgian team into the group stage of the second-tier European competition. Akin calls it a "small miracle", that he is part of the Anderlecht team again[3]. However this brief period of goals was interrupted by injury to the striker, causing him to miss out an opportunity to cement his spot in the Anderlecht side.
[edit] International career
He played 16 times for Turkey and scored 3 goals.[4] He also played 22 times for Turkey U21 and scored 12 goals.
