[edit] Biography

At age 7 he started his dance training at the Ensemble V. Lokteva in folk dances, and while there, he appeared along Oleg Popov in the film The Sun in the Bag (солнце в авоське). At the age of 9 Sergei was accepted into the prestigious Moscow Choreographic Institute, from which he graduated in 1988, in the class of Alexander Prokofiev. That same year he entered the Bolshoi Ballet Company, being promoted to the rank of Principal in 1990.

Ever since his first parts as a soloist, Sergei Filin has had a distinguished career as a Premier Danseur, garnering the applause of both public and critics alike, making him the recipient of some of the most prestigious awards in the Dance world.

Critics worldwide have praised his depurated classic technique, describing his dancing as smooth, precise and elegant, while remarking his strong partnering, virtuosity and noble stance. All of these has made him the perfect cast for leading roles in the classical ballet repertoire, while his talent for comedy has been brilliantly demonstrated in parts such as Colas in La Fille Mal Gardée or as the hilarious Classical Dancer in The Bright Stream.[citation needed]

Touring extensively, Mr. Filin has danced in some of the most prestigious venues in cities such as Tokio, New York, London, Paris, Vienna, Mexico, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Panama and Rome among many others.[citation needed]

In December of 2004, Filin suffered a severe injury while performing on stage at the Bolshoi Theatre, which put on hold his career for several months before returning to the dance scene in the second half of the following year.[citation needed]
