Septic Flesh are a symphonic-influenced death metal band from Athens, Greece with dark and macabre synth atmospherics very similar to famed countrymates Rotting Christ.
Formed in 1990, the line-up stayed fairly stable over the years except on albums The Ophidian Wheel (1997) and A Fallen Temple (1998), which featured a leading female vocalist, Natalie Rassoulis. Their music combines hyper-fast technical death metal, melodic death metal, gothic metal, and industrial metal, a concoction that made them one of the most acclaimed yet still relatively unknown bands in extreme metal.
After nearly 14 years as a band, the group split up in October 2003. Chris Antoniou continued involvement with Chaostar, which he formed in 1998, and Katsionis remained as guitarist for Nightfall and keyboardist for Firewind. TheDevilWorx formed a year after Septic Flesh's disbanding, and featured some members from the original line-up. On March 2007, guitarist Sotiris Vayenas revealed his plans for a new solo project called Aenaos. At this point a promo under the title "Man with no Shadow" will be sent to labels as an introduction of this new musical entity.
On February 19, 2007, Septic Flesh announced a reunion for Greece's Metal Healing Festival featuring Orphaned Land, Rage and Aborted, set to take place July 20-22.[1]. On April 3, 2007, Blabbermouth.net reported the band reunited for a seventh full length CD under French record label Season of Mist. According to guitarist and composer Christos Antoniou, the release will feature a full orchestra and choir made of 80 musicians and 32 singers.[2] SEPTICFLESH (now in one word) finalized the recordings of the new album in Studio Fredman in Sweden. The abum, called Communion, was released in April 2008.[3]
