Screen on the Green (Atlanta)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Screen on the Green is an annual summertime event in Atlanta's Piedmont Park hosted by local Atlanta television station Peachtree TV consisting of free movies shown on a large screen outdoors. Through the 2007 series Screen on the Green series was hosted by Turner Classic Movies. Under TCM, the summer series focused on classic movies, but has moved in a more current direction under Peachtree TV. The free movie screenings, which are held in a large field in the park on a movie theater sized portable screen, are shown each Thursday night of June, and start as soon as the sun has set. Each year thousands of people attend the screenings.
High-back chairs, tents, glass containers, pets, and grills are not allowed at the event. Outside food and non-alcoholic beverages are allowed at the event.
The event will be temporarily moved to Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta for 2008 due to drought conditions in the area affecting Piedmont Park. Alcoholic beverages cannot be brought into Centennial Olympic Park this year but will be served on site.
