Hi everyone!
[edit] Article Licensing
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] Area code stubs
Hi Scott - I see you're dealing with a few US area codes at the moment... when you do, could you give them US-geo-stub rather than just stub? It'll save us stub sorters a little bit of work! :) Thanks, Grutness|hello? 06:20, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- No problem. I'll remember that. ;) knoodelhed 06:24, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Bodyboarding corrections ;-)
Thanks Scott, for writting down the proper name o Michael Epplestan on the bodyboarding article. I was writing it very late at night and I did a lot of mistakes, but I was hoping someone would correct these, as is always the case in this wonderfull project, the WikiPedia: the community always get things right. I saw your user page and found that you are interested in Sci-fi and also Capoeira... As a brazilian I did also like Capoeira, did you practice it? I am more into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but I have Capoeira in a very high steem, since it´s a beutiful form of fight from Brazil. And I´m a big fan of sci-fi and extreme sports (of course, I´m a very mad, go for it bodyboarder as you could expect reading my contributions!)(I apologize for the poor english!)
[edit] Greek text
I'm not sure what happened, but your most recent edit appears to have munged the Greek text in an article (See [1]). Don't worry, someone's already fixed it, but you might want to check your setup. -- The Anome June 28, 2005 08:46 (UTC)
- Do you use IE for Mac? Then please change to another browser (for example Firefox), as the IE for Mac destroys all unicode characters. As en: has been converted to unicode with the recent Mediawiki update the number of articles containing non-ascii characters is increasing fast. andy 11:22, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

- I've noticed a warning in the edit/compose screens from IE5/MacClassic, which does not appear from Netscape 7.02, which I can run on my creaky old machine. I'll run that if I find myself needing to edit anything with non-ASCII content.. knoodelhed 18:35, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Police shootings at the 2001 EU-summit
Hi. I moved the section you contributed to Self defense and defense of others to that articles talk page, to seek a consensus as to whether it properly fit the tone of the article. I have no strong objection to it, and I think it's well written, but I'm trying to work all the common law articles into more generically informative pieces not focused on particular events (except where they were important in forming the law). Please make any reply on the article's talk page. Cheers! -- BD2412 talk 21:06, July 21, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Check1005.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Check1005.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL-self to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 20:24, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for notifying that. It has been tagged properly according to given information. Can you add these lines, whatever you written to me on the image page. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 22:15, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
Note from concerned browser FYI, I work at a bank, and the information left on teh check is enough for me to simply steal the identity. I suggest immediate removal.

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Tony hawk crossbone.JPG)
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Tony hawk crossbone.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 06:37, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- I believe that image was brought in from another language Wikipedia, so it should be okay to put back with the article. knoodelhed 06:58, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- The problem is not the source of the image. The problem was that the image is a screenshot of a video game, used under a claim of fair use, which was not illustrating the video game itself (and thus could not qualify for a fair-use claim). So I removed it from Tony Hawk. Now the image is orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles. Wikipedia does not allow fair-use images unless they are being used in articles, so I'm letting you know that the image is subject to deletion in seven days. Let me know if you have any questions. —Bkell (talk) 07:09, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Germans in the South West Pacific theatre
Hi Scott, I agree that the German subs are worth mentioning in the article, but all of the German raiding ships left the area before Japan entered the war, and therefore before there was a "South West Pacific Area (command)". Suppy/support services aside, there there were no joint operations between the Japanese and Germans/Italians that I'm aware of, although a couple of Italian subs and U-862 were handed over to the Japanese in Singapore/Penang when the Italian and German surrenders occurred.

[edit] V981-79
I have added a "prod" template to the article V981-79, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. ✤ JonHarder talk 00:44, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Spam in Orange County Transportation Authority
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Orange County Transportation Authority, by Igoldste (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Orange County Transportation Authority is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Orange County Transportation Authority, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. [edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Joseph_Ashton_dscf1154.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Joseph_Ashton_dscf1154.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 08:18, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Change title
Request for change in consensus: Change title to "Franklin Coverup Incident"
"A small group of editors can reach a consensual decision, but when the article gains wider attention, others may then disagree. The original group should not block further change on grounds that they already have made a decision. No one person, and no (limited) group of people, can unilaterally declare that community consensus has changed, or that it is fixed and determined."
The existing title is, in the opinion of many who have commented (Gyrofrog, Awfultin, Wayne, Tom1976, Conexion, Apostle 12), fatally biased. To start out saying that the subject material is a "hoax" is indefensible, especially when that point of view is hardly universal. A specially called county grand jury used the word "hoax;" that is all. And there is ample reason to believe that those who comprised the jury had a vested interest in protecting local people.
Request for Comment: Change title to more neutral "Franklin Coverup Incident" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Apostle12 (talk • contribs) 02:07, 30 January 2008 (UTC) Apostle12 (talk) 02:11, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Speedy deletion of Dane Williams
A tag has been placed on Dane Williams requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ukexpat (talk) 18:54, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:RocketPower BeachBanditsPS2.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:RocketPower BeachBanditsPS2.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Rocket_Power_IotM.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Rocket_Power_IotM.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] CNNTurk.com
A tag has been placed on CNNTurk.com, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template hangon
to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Hazillow (talk) 00:59, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Code of Non-Infringement
Hi, a long time ago you asked a question on the Code of non-infringement article's discussion page. It was like three years ago and you may have already been given an answer. But just in case you didn't, here's the question and the answer: Q:Would a retiring clown be able to legitimately grant his makeup scheme etc to his child, apprentice, or other designated successor? A:An individual trained by a clown may, with the clown's permission, use parts of the clown's bits. This includes a part of the face design, sometimes worn to show that one comes from a certain "school" or was trained by a certain clown. However, one does not ever copy a clown's face...even if that clown is retiring. Generally speaking, one creates a unique clown. Certain exceptions are made if, for example, an individual is undertaking a whole clown. That is to say that the clown can be seperate from the performer and a man may take over a clown from his retired father. But in this case (which is rare) the entire clown's act (name, bit, etc) and not just his face is used.
Better late than never. Clown culture is sadly in decline, but it's not entirely gone. - 24.23.37.62 (talk) 05:16, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
