The Scottish Rite Temple is a historic building in Mobile, Alabama, United States. It was completed in 1921 to serve as the meeting place for the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. The building was designed by George Bigelow Rogers, a local Mobile architect who also designed the Bellingrath Home and the Mobile Public Library. The Scottish Rite Temple is the only intact example of the Egyptian Revival style that remains in the city.[2] It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 05, 1984.[1]
The building features several forms seen in Ancient Egyptian architecture. The building itself is in the form of an Egyptian pylon. The monumental entrance is flanked by a pair of sphinxes, by the sculptor Allen W. Barr.[3] The roof is surmounted by two partial obelisks that originally functioned as chimneys.
