[edit] Reasons for May 24 Salem High revisions

In case someone doesn't understand why I changed the references to championships won by the "Men's" and "Women's" teams to "Boys" and "Girls", the reasons are as follows. The Virginia High School League is the single governing body of public high school athletic competition in the state. The VHSL refers to "boys" and "girls" in all of its records, schedules, and other documentation. On all the trophies awarded by the VHSL, the plates read "Boys" or "Girls", not "Men's" or "Women's". The VHSL makes absolutely no mention of sanctioning "Men's" and "Women's" sports. Frankly, since the majority of participants are under eighteen years of age, it would be rather senseless (and inappropriate) to view these teams as being comprised of men and women. Therefore, I hope we can all agree that incorrectly titling the team championships "Men's" and "Women's" was essentially a factual error. That is, since the state's governing body doesn't acknowledge the past or current existence of "Men's" and "Women's" sports, it seems to me that this can in no way be construed as a matter of opinion.

The other revisions I made consisted of noting that the River Ridge District will be moving to Region IV this fall, and of stating the calendar year of each team state championship. I feel that the dates are an important part of the school's history.

Although my revisions may be viewed as more substantial than most minor edits, none of the revisions altered the article's meaning, which is why I marked it as a minor edit.
