[edit] History
St. Mary’s can trace its roots back to 1813/1814, when a school was founded on Chapel Street, in the outskirts of Derby, England. Another school was founded in the same city in 1850, by Augustus Pugin. He constructed a St. Mary’s School off Nottingham Road. St. Mary's School later moved to Darley Lane in 1863 to join an existing school. The other school is thought to be the Chapel Street school. These two schools took the name Saint Mary's Catholic Primary School, and remained in the same location from 1863 through 2002.
In September 2002, having remained in the same location for 139 years, the school moved to its present location. The new building is located on land formerly owned by the Sisters of Mercy. The school reopened at its new location in September 2002.[2]
[edit] Academics
St. Mary's School received a "very good" rating on its last Office for Standards in Education evaluation in 2003. It was also characterized as "providing a very good value for money."[3]
