[edit] History

In June 1859, the Archbishop of Melbourne, Dr. Goold, petitioned the Sisters of Mercy in Dublin to establish a community in Geelong. Dr. Goold's request inspired the Superior, Mother Xavier Maguire. On September 5, 1859, Mother Xavier, accompanied by Sister Margaret Mullally and others, set sail for Geelong. Despite lack of resources, the nuns persevered, and in 1860 the Sisters of Mercy opened Sacred Heart College. For many years, it served as a co-educational school and housed a number of boarders; today, it is a Catholic girls' school, with no boarders.

[edit] Housing System
