Russian Premier League 2006

Russian Premier League 2006 was the 15th season of Russian Football Championship, and 5th under the current Russian Premier League name. The league was won by defending champions CSKA Moscow. Torpedo Moscow and Shinnik were relegated. It was the first time in Torpedo Moscow's history that the club was relegated.

[edit] Tie-breaking criteria
Based on paragraph 15.3 of Russian Premier League regulations for the current season, if two or more teams are equal on points, the standings of these teams (except the 1st position) are determined by:
- higher number of wins in all matches;
- higher goal difference in all matches;
- results of matches between the teams in question (1. higher number of points obtained; 2. higher number of wins; 3. higher goal difference; 4. higher number of goals scored; 5. higher number of away goals scored);
- higher number of goals scored in all matches;
- higher number of away goals scored in all matches;
- drawing of lots.
Based on paragraph 15.4 of Russian Premier League regulations for the current season, if two teams having the highest number of points are equal on them, the 1st position is determined by:
- higher number of wins in all matches;
- results of matches between the teams in question (1. higher number of points obtained; 2. higher goal difference; 3. higher number of goals scored; 4. higher number of away goals scored);
- drawing of lots to determine current standings, or an additional match between the teams in question, with extra time and penalty shoot-outs if necessary, to determine the champion at the end of the season.
Based on paragraph 15.5 of Russian Premier League regulations for the current season, if more than two teams having the highest number of points are equal on them, the 1st and subsequent positions of these teams are determined by:
- higher number of wins in all matches;
- higher goal difference in all matches;
- results of matches between the teams in question (1. higher number of points obtained; 2. higher goal difference; 3. higher number of goals scored; 4. higher number of away goals scored);
- drawing of lots to determine current standings, or an additional tournament between the teams in question to determine the final standings and the champion at the end of the season1
1The terms of this additional tournament are determined by Football Union of Russia and the governing body of Russian Premier League based on suggestions from the participating clubs.

- CSKA Moscow and Spartak Moscow have the highest number of points and are equal on them. They are ranked by their number of wins:
- CSKA Moscow - 17 wins
- Spartak Moscow - 15 wins
- Luch-Energia and Tom are ranked by their number of wins:
- Luch-Energia - 12 wins
- Tom - 11 wins
- Krylya Sovetov and Spartak Nalchik have equal number of wins, and thus are ranked by their overall goal difference:
- Krylya Sovetov - 10 wins, GD +2
- Spartak Nalchik - 10 wins, GD -3

Russian Football Union named Andrei Arshavin the best Premier League player of the season. Arshavin was also ranked best by major Russian sports newspapers, Sport-Express[1] and Soviet Sports[2] and became the Russian Footballer of the Year.
