Wikipedia articles shouldn't be a factor in determining the presence of famous Alumni there. More pragmatically, they should be handled on a case by case basis. The people who found the Mary Rose, for example, are quite well known (or they SHOULD be!) in the archeology world. Same goes for the inventor of the diving helmet. Some of them are perhaps more debatable than that, and you're right, should be sourced.
Also, this page needs linking to the "RHS" page. Everyone in England who knows it, refers to it that way.
