[edit] Deletion for non-notability

I don't agree that it is sufficiently notable for a person to be the first Black, Indian, woman, man, Chinese, etc. to do something. The fact that a person achieved a rank in the military is completely non-notable by itself. Was this person known for anything other than being the first Black woman to do something? Did she fight for women's rights? Cbdorsett (talk) 15:14, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I think it is because the military is mostly male and the governor appointed her to a post. Looking through your contribs, most are {{db-bio}}. You might want to look at notability before you tag pages for deletion. Miranda 15:21, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Most of my posts for the last hour, sure. That's irrelevant. This is not personal about you or me, Miranda.

I also disagree with your deleting a controversial tag for the sole reason that you personally disagree with it. There's a reason we put things up for discussion. If consensus says keep the article, then fine. I stand by my vote unless someone cares to show me why I should change it.

  • And yes, the policy you cite does touch on this subject: "A short burst of present news coverage about a topic does not necessarily constitute objective evidence of long-term notability." Cbdorsett (talk) 15:27, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

While you are at it, try reading Wikipedia:Notability (people) Cbdorsett (talk) 15:31, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

No, not really...it's not a controversial tag. You could go to AFD and see what they think, but putting on db-bio tags to delete the article would be moot, wouldn't you think? And, she wasn't just a "burst" on the scene. She is a high ranking official in the Army National Guard, a person who was elected to a state and national post, etc. I won't comment on this any further. Miranda 15:32, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I have read the article three times, and can see that Rosetta Burke is a highly accomplished individual. That, in itself, however, does not constitute notability. Is Ms. Burke the subject of magazine articles, television shows, web pages? (Also, as the tag says, "do not remove this notice from pages that you have created yourself. If you created this page and you disagree with its proposed speedy deletion, please add: {{hangon}}"). Tim Rossยทtalk 15:33, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

She is the subject of webpages, you can read the links, and she's a head of a national organization as well. Miranda 15:34, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
  • This has gone too far. My comments have been deleted from the page on Article For Deletion. By whom? The original contributor. This has now become something of a turf issue. I object. I intend to do something about it, but I am far too angry right now. I'll wait a while. There are plenty of votes to keep, which is fine. People are entitled to their opinion. I don't mind being in the minority, either. But silencing people who disagree with you? Come on. Get real. Cbdorsett (talk) 14:22, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
