[edit] About Rosemary

Rosemary first appeared on Emmerdale in early 2006. She is the mother of Alasdair and Grayson Sinclair, and her family is very wealthy. The last member of the Sinclair family to be introduced, she disapproved of Alasdair's fiancée Sadie King. On the morning of the wedding, Rosemary tried to bribe Sadie into leaving her son alone, but Sadie refused to back down.

Alasdair and Sadie were married, but within moments Sadie's ex-lover Matthew King took Sadie away. Rosemary tried to have Sadie and Alasdair's marriage annulled to stop Sadie from getting a divorce settlement. However, Sadie tricked Rosemary into thinking that she and Alasdair had since consummated their marriage.

Rosemary made a deal with Sadie: in exchange for the Sinclair business with the most sentimental value to Rosemary, Sadie would have her marriage annulled. Rosemary finally got her own back on Sadie: as soon as the business was signed over, Rosemary revealed that it was now worthless. She also told Sadie that the meal she had been served prior to the signings had been Sadie's horse Cossack (this was a lie, but Sadie believed it).

Rosemary returned to the village in August, where it appeared that she lived at Oakwell Hall with son, Grayson and her daughter-in-law Perdy.

Their hatred of scheming Sadie was one of the things that bonded her and local businessman Tom King. Rosemary was quick to spot that getting involved with the wealthy family would be advantageous to both parties and began putting business their way.

And it wasn't just business that developed between the family. A spark ignited between Rosemary and Tom and they quickly became lovers – much to the horror of Tom's sons, who didn't trust Rosemary one little bit.

And they were right to question her motives. While she may have had a fancy house and a plumy accent, Rosemary's fortunes were fading fast. Her family home, Oakwell Hall, didn't belong to her anymore and her money was almost gone – mostly thanks to the stupidity of her sons Grayson and Alasdair. Grayson, in particular, had almost drunk the well dry.

His gambling, extravagant living and complete inability to make money of his own had left Rosemary bailing him out time and time again.

Sick of it, she cut him off – prompting more tension between herself and her daughter-in-law Perdy. Like Rosemary, Perdy had a bit of a taste for King men. In a move designed to wind up her mother-in-law, Perdy struck up a flirtation with Matthew King – and ended up having sex with him in Tom's office. Already convinced that Perdy was no good for her son anyway, Rosemary was determined to see the rocky marriage fail. But she hadn't banked on Grayson's devotion to Perdy. After discovering his wife had suffered a series of miscarriages and hadn't felt able to tell him, he decided to move her out of Rosemary's control and give their marriage a fighting chance.

Meanwhile, Rosemary had moved herself into Home Farm. With her relationship with Tom progressing, she felt more secure in her status there and clashed repeatedly with fellow resident Chas Dingle and Tom's trusted secretary Edna Birch.

With everyone opposed to their relationship, Tom decided he needed to prove that he was serious about Rosemary. He shocked her by proposing and now the couple are heading for a romantic, Christmas day wedding ceremony.

They married at the village church and later had the reception at Home Farm, Tom announced he was handing over control of Home Farm Estate over to her as a wedding present, much to the disgust of Tom's sons. Later that night, she was widowed when somebody pushed Tom out of his bedroom window. She was also named as one of the ten suspects who murdered Tom King.

Feeling lonely after her husband's death, things weren't getting any better. She continued to live at Home Farm under the menacing eyes of the King Brothers. They thought she had murdered their father and that she was under their feet. She became very close friends with Charles Vaughan and many suspected them of having an affair.

Tensions became very heated when Rosemary learnt from Grayson that the brothers were planning to bury Tom when she was on holiday, she took the body herself and went to Home Farm to a very cold reception. The brothers blanked her at the funeral and were even more angry when they discovered during the reading of the will that Rosemary be allowed to live at the house. They were more shocked when they found they had a sister. Carrie Nicholls was hated by the brothers when they learnt of the affair and Rosemary saw it to her advantage. The two became allies and Rosemary continued to twist the knife in.

Matthew soon learnt from Perdy that Rosemary had been widowed before, in mysterious circumstances as well. Ray Sinclair, her first husband had died in a mysterious shooting accident and Matthew convinced Perdy to give a statement to the police claiming it as vital evidence. The police questioned Rosemary who immediately suspected Perdy had told them but was shocked when Matthew lied saying he had found out. The police came a few days later but arrested the King brothers for conspiracy to murder.

Rosemary wanted the King Brothers to go down for murder and was even popping the champagne cork after their arrest. She wanted her husband's killer or killers found and more importantly, she wants the Kings out of her way. She continues her scheming ways and tells Andy Sugden that he will have to evict Katie Sugden and Perdy who are setting up stables at Butler's Farm as she rents the farm and what they are doing is illegal. Perdy soon learns of this and is furious at Rosemary who tells them they can use the Home Farm stables if she can become one of the business partners.

Scarlett Nicholls soon finds out about her brothers and Rosemary delights in their fury about her hanging around but she herself develops family problems when Perdy suffers another miscarriage and has to have a hysterectomy to save her life. Rosemary smells a rat when Grayson lies and forces him to tell the truth. Distraught about her hopes of not having a grandson she feels the marriage won't last and convinces Grayson to leave her. But he won't give up and agrees to give the marriage a fighting chance.

Rosemary also starts becoming good friends with Zak Dingle. Her and Belle Dingle also become close after Rosemary agrees to pay Belle's fees for her to go to private school. With Zak working as gamekeeper, they become good friends and soon Lisa Dingle suspects them of having an affair, especially when Rosemary tells Zak that her first husband committed suicide by shooting himself because Rosemary made his life hell. Lisa soon flies off the handle, she slaps Rosemary and throws Zak out but Rosemary manages to talk her around. Not long after this Grayson manages to borrow money from her.

Grayson uses the money to bet on Hari's horse which loses and Grayson tells him to get the money back. Rosemary soon gets involved telling Hari that she will forget the money (since it was hers that Grayson lost) and pay back the money Hari stole from the vets to pay for the horse if he lies to the police telling them he overheard the King brothers talking about the murder weapon. Hari agrees to it and uses Louise Appleton to back up his story.

Matthew is convinced that Rosemary is behind the false alibis and doesn't think much of them, Hari is also in trouble when Louise finds out he is lying and runs her car off the road to stop her telling the police. On the day of the trial, Hari and Louise don't give their statements and Hari is arrested for assault after trying to kill Louise in hospital after she told the police the truth, the Kings are released with lack of evidence and Rosemary who is in Dubai is in for trouble when she arrives back, two weeks later. Carrie finds out about Rosemary's lying and records her confession. The Kings find out and track her to Home Farm where she calls for help, Matthew grabs the phone and holds it over a balcony, however Rosemary looses her balance and falls to the floor unconscious below. She survives but with Matthew talking about killing her she fears for her life until Jimmy tells her to sign over Home Farm Estates and to stop living in the house, when she signs, they all call an ambulance and Rosemary is taken to hospital where she tells Grayson there is not a thing they can do. Rosemary tells Grayson that the Kings will pay for what they've done and Carrie will rule the day she ever met her.

With Rosemary's track record of revenge, she is sure to get what she is owed and is still up to her evil tricks by trying to convince Perdy she is going mad so she and Grayson will split up. She is using cruel mind games and evil tactics to make Perdy think she is going insane, she wants rid of her due to her inability to conceive and she wants Grayson to find someone better and will continue until Perdy is out of Grayson's life forever. She has bought an entire nursery to furnish the attic with, she has drugged Perdy and has even damaged her car. Rosemary finally completes her goal when she confesses to Perdy for making her go mad in the attic after Perdy finds the nursery and tries to attack Rosemary until she comes out and is taken into a waiting ambulance.

On 13th September 2007 Grayson went to see Perdy's doctor, and he told him about the malaria pills Rosemary had been prescribing for. Grayson then learned from him that all of Perdy's symptoms are the symptoms of anti-malaria pills. He confronted Rosemary who then admitted that she had been poisoning Perdy all along. Grayson then kicked her out and told her never to return. She went to stay at the B and B owned by Terry woods, and then asked to stay at Paddy's. The next morning she bumped into Perdy in the Woolpack, who announced in front of the whole pub that Rosemary had been poisoning her. Zak then took a tearful Rosemary back to Paddy's where she confessed to him that what Perdy had said was true. A horrified Zak then told Rosemary he wanted nothing more to do with her, and walked off. She then bumped into Grayson in the village, who told her to leave the village. She said she wouldn't leave, and then Grayson told her there was nothing left for her in Emmerdale. She then vanished from the village without a trace. On October 31, Edna was looking for her dog Tootsie. She found her, but didn't notice what Tootsie was sitting near - Rosemary's bag and passport. This added more mystery to her disappearance. A few weeks later Paddy Kirk, and Marlon Dingle were walking down a country road when they spotted Rosemary's handbag and passport lying in the grass. They called the police, who searched the bag and found a calendar notebook, and in the 13th September 2007 box (the date she was last seen) it said MK MF, written in her handwriting. The police suspected that this stood for Matthew King, Manor Farm, meaning that Rosemary had met up with Matthew at Manor Farm (the King's property) on that day. They informed Grayson, and found Rosemary's car abandoned at Manor Farm, and two empty coffee cups on the table, one with Matthew's finger prints on it, and the other with Rosemary's finger prints on it. They found traces of Rosemary's blood on the floor, and concluded that Matthew had invited Rosemary up to Manor Farm, drunk coffee with her, and had murdered Rosemary. Matthew was arrested, and charged, and held on remand in prison. The whole village turned against him, believing him to be a murderer. However, Grayson had hired a private detective to find his mother, before the incriminating evidence had been found, and the detective told Grayson that Rosemary was alive, and living in Miami. She gave Grayson a letter which Rosemary had given her to give to Grayson, where Rosemary told her son the truth. Rosemary had faked her own death, and had deliberately made it look as though her arch enemy, Matthew King, had murdered her. Grayson decided to do the right thing, and headed up to Home Farm to tell Matthew the truth. But on his way, he caught his wife Perdy kissing Matthew, and found out she was having an affair with him. Grayson then kept the letter to himself, and Matthew was imprisoned. On Christmas day 2007, Perdy found the letter and confronted Grayson. She told him she was going to go to the police, but Grayson pushed her down the stairs and did a runner, but Carl and Jimmy were waiting outside the house and caught him. They took the letter to the police, and Matthew was freed, but Grayson lied that he had not yet read the letter, so he wasn't charged.

On Christmas day 2007, the first anniversery of her husband Tom King's death, Rosemary committed suicide by gunshot after discovering the police were looking for her. On January 1 Rosemary was buried with her deceased husband Tom King. However after the funeral Matthew King returned and dug up Rosemary's coffin and placed her in the back of a bin lorry and crushed the coffin.
