Ronny, fullname Ronny Heberson Furtado de Araújo (born May 11, 1986 in Fortaleza), is a left sided Brazilian football (soccer) defender, who currently plays for Portuguese giants Sporting Clube de Portugal. Ronny is a deadball specialist with a cannon of a left foot, being nicknamed for that "Homem Bomba" (bomb man).
Ronny began his career at Brazilian giants Corinthians, playing for three seasons, and establishing himself as a promising player.
After his contract ended in July 2006, clubs such as Manchester City F.C., PSV Eindhoven, Paris Saint-Germain FC and Sporting fought for his signature, with the Lions signing the young talent.
Since joining Sporting, he struggled to gain first-choice status: in 2006-07, he battled with internationals Marco Caneira (all-around defender) and Rodrigo Tello, finishing with 12 league appearances, although he would score a memorable goal in an 88th minute 1-0 away win at Figueira da Foz against Naval 1º de Maio, on November 26: his free-kick was measured at 221 km/h ,[1]the fastest ever. From video footage, the shot is so powerful that it is very difficult to distinguish the ball in mid-flight. Unsurprisingly, Naval's goalkeeper Pedro Taborda barely has a chance to react at all.
In 2007-08, Ronny started the season as main left-back but, with the arrival on loan, from AC Milan, in January, of Leandro Grimi, the Brazilian lost his position.
