Roman Catholic Diocese of Green Bay

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Green Bay (Latin: Diocesis Sinus Viridis) was erected on March 3, 1868 by Pope Pius IX,[1] and covers the city of Green Bay as well as Brown, Calumet, Door, Florence, Forest, Kewaunee, Langlade, Manitowoc, Marinette, Menominee, Oconto, Outagamie, Shawano, Waupaca, Waushara, and Winnebago counties, Wisconsin.[2] Its first missionary was Fr. Claude-Jean Allouez, who said his first mass in Oconto, Wisconsin.
The Cathedral of Saint Francis Xavier in Green Bay is the mother church of the Diocese of Green Bay.
The Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help, in Champion, Wisconsin, and the National Shrine of Saint Joseph, in DePere, Wisconsin, at Saint Norbert Abbey, are located in the Diocese.
