Romanesque art refers to the art of Western Europe prevalent during the High Middle Ages spanning the era from approximately 1000 AD to the rise of the Gothic style of architecture in the 12th century or later. It covers architecture, painting, sculpture and metal working. It can be said to be the first truly international style of art to appear in Western Europe after the fall of the Roman empire.
