[edit] Baseball

Has Rockhurst won or played for a championship in baseball? I remember something about second place in 2004. I'm going to post that for now, and see what kind of responses it gets. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by AgBrick (talkcontribs) 02:24, 6 December 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Editing

If a person feels inclined to modify, or completely alter the structure as a whole, then he/she should check the "credibility" of the person who originally made the installment.

On a personal note, I should add that I am not as competent and versed as many others in the way of operating this website, or the internet all together. However, I have an objective to help make this website as good as it should be. -AgBrick

[edit] Athletic Section

[edit] Photographs and more

This page is beginning to look really good. Does anyone live around Rockhurst that could take some pictures, indoors and outdoors? Also, should we consider reorganizing the championship sections since there's so much information there now? And lastly, anybody have some old pics? Pat 22:37, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Football Section Needs Massive Clean-up

To comport with Wikipedia's standards, the football section (which, along with "Soccer", I just separated from the general "Athletics" section) needs to be cleaned up in a big, big way. The short list of problems:

1. The section seems very sympathetic to the football team rather than objective and fact-oriented. This is likely a result of the shortage of information the original author had at his/her disposal about the history of the program, perhaps in part because of how young the author may be (it appears the section may have been written by a member of one of the 1998-2005 teams.... For example, in paragraph three of "Football": "It is widely believed that had (the 1998 team) won, they would have also won in the finals against Riverview Gardens, as the Hawklets were loaded with talent (perhaps the best team never to win state at Rockhurst)." This subjectivity and speculation is repeated throughout the section.

2. The scope of the football section is too limited, and the amount of detail being given to the 1998-present teams -- given the long history of the program -- is undue. Of the school's seven state championships, only two occurred after 1998, and though it is good to have lots of information about teams, the section should be pared down and, additionally, more detail needs to be paid to teams in prior decades. The section needs to be evened out. If there is lots of info out there to be added to this section, great, but quite frankly it should be made into its own article in that case (perhaps "Rockhurst High School Athletics" or more narrowly "Rockhurst High School Football").

3. Lastly, and related to 2., the amount of space given to the football program is inordinate when the article is looked at overall, especially for an article about a secondary school. Currently, the football section of Rockhurst High School is longer than its non-football section, including its academics and institutional history. In addition, the Rockhurst High School football section is even longer than the entire Athletics section of Notre Dame, which of course includes its football program. Something is very wrong with that. Worth noting is that Notre Dame's football team has its own article, and when there's enough meaningful info on the Rockhurst program, that alternative should be considered by the article's contributors. In the meantime, the section just needs to get cut down and its original content (minus the subjective portions) moved to a new article when more history about the program is known.

The detail about the football program is great to an extent, but it's inordinately biased and takes away from the focus of the article itself, that being the institution. Anybody interested in revising this?

small other point from other reviewer: i attended rockhurst a few years ago, and unless things have changed in pretty dramatic fashion, the average class size is certainly not 12 students. in fact, given the student teacher ratio of 12 to 1, every teacher would have to be teaching at all times, which clearly isn't true. and since teachers probably teach about 4 classes a day (if memory serves), the class size should be more like 21, which seems more likely to me. to emphasize the guestimate nature of this, i'll insert ~20 (sorry, i'm new to this, i hope that seems like a reasonable way to deal with things. no, its not verifiable, but it beats the hell out of 12).

Another point: somebody edited in humorous but untrue comments about several Rockhurst teachers; I took the liberty to remove them but if somebody did it once it will probably be done again.

Points from another editor: I have added many people to the notable alumni section. I also have added athletic championships beyond first place. My additions are not meant to be final. I hope that others can improve upon my ideas. -AgBrick

[edit] Alumni links

A lot of the alumni links had previously directed to completely different people. I did some fixing, but now there's a lot of red names listed. It might be wise to do some trimming. (And I was the one that made that edit, but I hadn't signed in at the time) MrCheshire 18:14, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:RockhurstHSHawkletlogo.jpg

Image:RockhurstHSHawkletlogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] William Chrisman or Columbia Hickman?

In the 'Football' section under 'Program Specific Accomplishments', it states that Rockhurst played its first football championship at William Chrisman High School. However, the article previously stated that they played at Columbia Hickman High School. Because no source was cited for this edit and because the edit was made by an anonymous user, I am not sure if this is correct. The Rockhurst High School web page has no information regarding this, and I haven't found any other sources so far. Does anybody know where Rockhurst played the 1971 Football State Championship?
