Rock n Roll is an album by Ryan Adams, released on November 4, 2003. The album features the hit single "So Alive," and includes guest appearances by Adams's then girlfirend, actress Parker Posey, former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bass player Melissa Auf der Maur, and Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong.
The album was a reaction to Adams' record label, Lost Highway's refusal of his album, Love is Hell, which the record company claimed was too depressing and not up to Adams' potential. Rock n Roll evolved organically, according to Adams, and not as a capitulation to Lost Highway.
The ensuing standoff was resolved "by being very diplomatic," according to Adams. Rock n Roll became the primary product, while Love is Hell was split into EPs (but was eventually released in its entirety as an LP). link.
Many Ryan Adams fans believe that the cover of Bryan Adams' album 11 is very similar to Rock N Roll's album cover.
