Rob Burton

Rob Burton is the mayor of Oakville, Ontario, in Canada. He was elected in the 2006 municipal election, in which he defeated 18-year incumbent Ann Mulvale.
Before becoming mayor, he was the retired founder and GM of YTV, a popular children's, youth and family TV network, and not previously in any political office.
Burton moved to Oakville in 1994. Before YTV, he had worked on CBC's Marketplace and other shows, taught college in Sudbury, worked as a journalist and filmmaker in Toronto and Ottawa. When he sold his interests in the network and retired to Oakville he became active in residents associations and minor sports. He studied Economics and History for his BA degree from UNM and received the MS degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in 1971. His ground-breaking Master's thesis statistically linked air pollution and damage to health.
He serves on the board of directors of the Ontario GO Transit system, Halton Healthcare Services and Oakville Hydro.
He and his wife have three children.
