Is it really necessary to list every hero in the game? The information adds considerably to the length and means little to a reader unfamiliar with the game. AncientToaster (talk) 05:29, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

It should be noted that 'Cuotl' probably comes from Quetzalcoatl (pronounced the same), an Aztec God. Also, there are flying units in the Cuotl army called 'Quetzals'.Neutronium 21:09, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

The campaign mode story should be included in this article, as well as the differences between campaign gameplay and skirmish/online gameplay (such as the 'reborn' Giacomo, Arri and other special heroes and tech tree differences). I would be happy to do it, but I need to actually complete the Cuotl campaign which I just started. Serados 06:05, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

What I've done so far (spoiler alert): The Doge of Venucci has found a mystical artifact in a mine, and attached it onto his machine. He spots the Mianan troops, led by the Mianan leader, Petruzzo, walking on a mountain path. Intent on 'testing' his find, the Doge shoots a beam at a boulder, causing a rockfall. Petruzzo leapt and pushed his brother Giacomo out of the way of a falling boulder, only to have himself trapped under it. Giacomo tries desperately to free his brother, but to no avail. Giacomo then vows to hunt the Doge down and kill him to avenge his brother.

Giacomo and his General Carlini pair up and rally the Mianan army, and frees Pirata from Venucci control. There, he meets Lenora, Pirata Captain and future love interest. The combined forces of Pirata and Miana march into Venucci, where they find out the Doge has constructed a monstrous weapon called the Doge Hammer, which can flatten an entire city with just one shot. Giacomo captures the Doge Hammer and turns it on Venucci, but after searching the entire city, realises that the Doge has tricked them into capturing a decoy. The real Doge Hammer has long been moved eastward, towards Miana, together with the Doge's army. Giacomo heads back to Miana, but finds it devastated by the Doge Hammer with no known survivors. Giacomo then rallies his forces and heads into the desert where the Doge has fled.

After wandering in the desert, Giacomo is still unable to find the city of Azar Harif, where they can seek help from the desert-dwelling Alin. His Clockwork Men break down easily due to the sand getting into their gears, and his men are tired. He finds a mystic in the desert who claims to be able to lead him to Azar Harif in exchange for an ancient relic. Giacomo combs the desert for the relic and gives it to the mystic. Upon receiving the relic, the mystic reveals his true self - the Dark Genie Marwan, who wants the relic for his master, Sawu the Dark Alin. A fierce battle ensues, and Marwan summons hordes of Dark Glass soldiers the Vinci troops have never seen before. Giacomo's old friend, Arri, then turns up and helps in the fight, before forcing Marwan to flee in a Magic Wind.

Dire news awaits in Azar Harif, where they find out that the Alin themselves are plagued by the Dark Alin troops who have become active again. Also, Lenora has to head back to Pirata to repair her airship and will not be able to assist Giacomo.

Recently, Dark Alin troops have began to attack the Alin lands once more, and the King is at a loss. Legend says that a long time ago, Sawu discovered an artifact that granted him power to create Dark Glass soldiers to do his bidding. Sawu then attacked Mezekesh, the greatest Alin city ever built. Mezekesh fell quickly, but the Sand Warden, Dakhla, and the Desert Flame, Damanhur, both sealed the gate to Mezekesh, which was consumed under the sand together with Sawu and the Dark Glass soldiers. The King has been convinced by the Doge that he can help get rid the Alin lands of the Dark Alin, but Giacomo knows the Doge has an ulterior motive and wants Arri to go with him to defeat the Dark Alin and the Doge. The King denies Giacomo's request, but the audience is cut short by a Dark Alin attack. Arri herself defies the King's orders and goes with Giacomo after defending city from the Dark Alin.

Now controlling an Alin force, Giacomo and Arri seek out Damanhur and Dakhla, appeasing them and persuading them to open the gate to Mezekesh. They defeat Sawu in a terrible battle, but find out that Sawu was actually being controlled by a advanced device that could not have been constructed by either the Vinci or the Alin. Sawu now joins their cause, and they realise the Doge has also brought the Doge Hammer to the desert. Lenora comes back with Vinci air units, and the Alin and Vinci heroes destroy the Hammer once and for all.

Giacomo chases the Doge into the dense rainforest of Aio, where they defeat the Moon God's forces with the help of a local warchief, Yontash. A hulking golem (I haven't played enough to know what this guy's name is called) appears and attacks the Vinci troops, and sends Giacomo's machine crashing to the ground, but not before Giacomo blasted off its arm. Giacomo spots a energy beam device similar to that on the Doge's Walker and charges it, accidentally triggering a small explosion. Carlini sees what is happening, and picks up a rocket from Giacomo's machine and tosses it into the gaping hole in the side of the golem. The Cuotl Death God, Czin, then appears. Carlini draws his sword and taunts the monster, but Czin kills Carlini and carries the beam device away.

The explosion has changed Giacomo, and he is now almost a hybrid between man and machine. He has something similar to the Midas touch, but instead of creating gold, what he touches becomes glass. Giacomo recreates the Cuotl technology for himself, and constructs a new, stronger Walker based on Cuotl and Vinci technology. He heads into Cuotl lands, but it turns out that Czin has spread a plague throughout the forest that the Cuotl followers are immune to, as a means of protecting his domain. Yontash is able to create an antidote, but Giacomo must decide whether to take Vinci or Alin forces into the forest, since there is only enough antidote for half the army.

What's the status on completing this? I think it's really well written, and would like to see the rest of it done. If it's not completed, I'll take over, but I'm currently further back than you were at the end of this synopsis (I've got about six zones left in the Alin campaign). –Dvandersluis 19:37, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
The "hulking golem" as you call him is Ix, the Moon god and this is the only time you see him in campaign mode, though he does appear on one multiplayer map. For a better look use "/cheat add 1 moon" to add him to your army. I have completed all the campaigns so give me shout if you want more info. BTW Who put that there are 8 Cuotl Gods as there are clearly 4.--DTWATKINS 19:39, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
The game obviously ends hinting at a sequel (i.e. the Alin want to expand into Vinci and Cuotl territories, the new Vinci republic and its internal struggles, and the Cuotl some of whom still worship the aliens). Too bad about... never mind (don't want to spoil it for those who didn't finish yet). I think the 8 gods idea might come from those who watch the final cutscene with the different aliens (different species too) looking at Giacomo. Playing the campaign, I still haven't figured out why the multiple ads for the game had recruiting posters for the Vinci calling out to fight and Alin and vice versa.--ChronoLegion 8 August 2006
Due to the holographic nature of the face at the end of the game I think this is the true face of the Cuotl, possibly contacted via Czin's transmitter, after all he may just have been calling for help.DTWATKINS 22:16, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Would not Giacomo's use of Ix's body in his "mech" indicate that the false gods are Cuotl-constructed artificially intelligent machines (and his seeming rather hollow when Carlini tosses a shell in his side)? Aulivia 21:23, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Between the heroes, units, buildings and in-depth gameplay features (which will most likely be added in the coming weeks) it would probably be a good idea to make three pages covering each of the races (Alin, Vinci, Cuotl) in detail, and just putting important gameplay mechanics and the story-line on the actual page. Such as those about the Starcraft races? As it stands, we still don't have enough backstory about the races, unlike the Starcraft universe where several novels have been published and the backstory explored over a few games. I'll get around to doing the story when I'm done with the Cuotl campaign (see above for a separate discussion thread). I agree, the designers need to make up the backstories for how each cultures came to be. For example, how the Great Master began the steampunk way of life for the Vinci, how Sawu first found the alien artifact, how the Alin kingdom/empire first arose, how the aliens crash-landed in the Cuotl jungles and became the false gods, etc. I like how Blizzard and Firaxis provided extensive backstories for their games with the Warcraft story going back thousands of years to the creation of Azeroth, the StarCraft story describing the ancient Xel'Naga attempting to create the perfect species. I even enjoyed the backstory for Alpha Centauri (didn't like the ending of the book trilogy - no Progenitors). Anybody agree? ChronoLegion 8 August 2006

I split the civ sections off into their own page, with summaries replacing the old content on this article. As well, I've created a template for the articles of this game. You'll notice that there's a ton of red links; I created a link for each playable hero in the game, and I don't think it will be too hard to create small articles for those redlinks. Also, though I didn't add it yet, I think we could have articles on other things, such as Aio as a whole. –Dvandersluis 15:00, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

I thought Marwan should be included as a hero since he is clearly stated as a hero in the Encyclopedia Aio as a misc hero. Asarhapi September 16 2006

  • I've added the dark alin genies and the vinci lords in the template, heroes such as marwan,bahariya,and theben should be classed into one category because their have the same abilities.same goes for the vinci lords such as lord rocco, dante, don sclario.by the way feel free to help out to edit the articles.Asarhapi 13:00, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
