"Rise Above" is a song by the Hardcore punk band Black Flag. It was included on their debut LP, Damaged.
[edit] Overview
The song begins with a fast paced drum beat, then the guitar comes in, then the bass. The song was usually used as the opening song to their live set. Stewart Mason, from Allmusic Guide, called the song "the closest Greg Ginn ever got to crystallizing the rage and angst supposedly at the heart of his band's music", also adding, "Henry Rollins' short sharp bark of a voice is a much more potent instrument than any of the group's previous rotating cast of singers, delivering Ginn's lyrics with the clipped urgency they require."
The song, written by Greg Ginn, was about rebelling against authoritan figures and sticking up for your chance in the world. It was the first song they released that included Henry Rollins on vocals.
