[edit] Yet another Gwen Stefani Commercial Advertisement?

Fresh from the featured advert for "Cool" we now have yet another free advert masquerading as a legitimate Wiki article. Please explain to me why you feel that in 100 years time someone will type the words "Rich Girl" into our search engine expecting to see this article? Yes she should have a bio, but a track by track uncritical puff piece for each song? No. --HasBeen 14:15, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

Perhaps you would like to nominate it in VfD? --malber 04:01, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, I will do just that. --HasBeen 11:14, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

Hey, I typed "Rich Girl" in and I was surprised to see this article!!

[edit] Failed AFD

See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rich Girl. Johnleemk | Talk 10:43, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

The Vfd for this submission is understandable, but the problem is not it's content, but it's context. "Rich Girl" applies to much more than a single isolated (however popular) song title.

A similar example:

Searching "Joker" on wikipedia yields:

A joker is the common name for the representation of a medieval court jester or harlequin. A joker typically wears a floppy, multi-pointed hat made of cloth fabric with jingle bells at the tips of the points. The joker wears colorful clothing, laughs incessantly, and often holds a mock scepter known as a marotte in his hand.

The term joker is most often a reference to one of two special cards in an Anglo-American playing card deck that are used as wild cards.

The Joker is also known to assist construction workers in their daily work. It prevents work-related injuries, resulting from static repeating movements, vibrating tools and so forth. See also joker automatic feeder. [edit]

   * A species of monster from the Monster Rancher video games.
   * The Joker is a recurring mini-boss in the game, Viewtiful Joe.
   * Joker, a game played on the game show The Price Is Right.

The issue is resolved by the "Gwen Stefani - Rich Girl" reference being accompanied by more general information.David.c.williams 04:27, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Screencaps?

Does anyone know where I can find a high quality screencap from the music video? Screencaps with music channel or network logos won't do. Underneath-it-All 07:47, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Maybe if you purchased the video from iTunes, you could create a screencap from your computer. —Eternal Equinox | talk 16:01, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Facts

The article states that "Rich Girl" is based on the song "If I Were a Rich Man". This is a biased statement in favour of Gwen Stefani. "Rich Girl" is almost totally copied from "If I Were a Rich Man", from rhythm to melody to chords, save for the minor changes in lyrics (like from "Man" to "Girl") and an added rock beat to the song. Anyone care to check this out/correct this? --218.186.9.3 15:48, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Actually, the song was almost completely copied from Louchie Lou and Michie One's "Rich Girl", which itself had a lot of the original "If I Were a Rich Man". ShadowHalo 23:14, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Critical Reception

ShadowHalo...when u requested a peer preview for this article,u said that u fely that the critical reception part need more,i think this is the best critical reception section of any artcile to date. Please do not add or remove anything. It would make a mess.BUT THIS ARTICLE IS VERY GOOD.FEATURED ARTICLE IS A MUST FOR IT.BEST WIKIPEDIA WORK. User:luxurious.gaurav

I don't plan on adding or removing anything (unless someone else disagrees). For reference, this is what the Critical reception section looked like when the peer review. I'll see about closing the peer review (unless there's ongoing discussion then) in about two weeks, since my exams will be done then and I'll have time for FAC. ShadowHalo 17:43, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Congratulations

This article has achieved FA status.Congratulations to ShadowHalo and all the people who contibuted to the article. It surely is one of the best works of Wikipedia.I am waiting for this article to come on the main page. User: Luxurious.gaurav

If you'd like to nominate it to appear on the Main Page, feel free. Personally, I think What You Waiting For? would be the best, or maybe Hollaback Girl (Cool (song) has already been on the Main Page), so there are already nominations for those two articles at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests. Once one of the Gwen Stefani articles is on the Main Page, it'll be a long time until another is there, though. ShadowHalo 13:05, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Sounds great.I am nominationg it.User:luxurious.gaurav

[edit] "Music and structure"

Don't get me wrong, but I could swear that is a jamaican dancehall riddim, launched years before "Rich Girl".

That's why the article says"Dr. Dre instead suggested using reggae duo Louchie Lou and Michie One's 1993 song 'Rich Girl'." ShadowHalo 23:27, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Isn't it "Hi Li Hi Li Hi", from Macka B's 1998 "Suspicious" album? --190.17.8.184 (talk) 22:21, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

I don't know why the page says that Rich Girl was written by Dr. Dre, Eve and Gwen Stephani because the song was an earlier hit for Patra and Lady Saw- If I was a Rich Girl. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.198.205.178 (talk) 02:46, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Featured Article

I must say I was surprised to see this article featured over worldwide number 1 songs. I mean this song only reched number 1 in ONE country! I know my opinions as to why and I'm sure alot of you who are reading this would be having similar thoughts. TeePee-20.7 (talk) 12:42, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
