Richard "Quiet Lion" Brodie (born November 10, 1959) is the original author of Microsoft Word[1][2], was employee #77 at Microsoft and is now a professional poker player. He is also the author of two books: Virus of the Mind: The New Science of the Meme, and Getting Past OK: A Straightforward Guide To Having a Fantastic Life!.

During the World Series of Poker of 2006, he mentioned the red squiggly underline marking misspelled words in Microsoft Word was his idea. His recent exploits on the World Poker Tour can be seen at his blog. As of 2008, his total live tournament winnings exceed $170,000.[3]

Richard is a current member of Team Full Tilt Poker, and plays at their site under the screenname "Quiet Lion". He also appeared on NBC's game show "Identity" in 2007.

On May 10, 2007, Brodie received certified mail indicating that he was banned from all Harrah's locations in Nevada, California, and Arizona.[4] He was originally not allowed to participate in the World Series of Poker, but according to Brodie's blog, on June 8 Harrah's executives relented, calling the ban a mistake.
