Rehoboth-Ir is named among the cities founded by either Asshur or Nimrod in Genesis 10:11. Its exact location is not now known; it was possibly a suburb of Nineveh. However, the Hebrew words "rehoboth'ir" may also be translated, as in the Vulgate, as "the streets of the city" or "the public square of the city", in reference to Nineveh itself, rather than the name of a distinct city.
