"Redemption" (Parts 1 and 2) are the Season 6 premiere episodes of the science fiction television series Stargate SG-1. "Redemption Part 2" was nominated for a Gemini Award in the category "Best Visual Effects".[1]

On a planet, SG-1 is forced to retreat while their fourth member apologizes to the injured O'Neill. They are able to go through the Stargate, followed by a spear, however the fourth member, named Captain Hagman, is stunned. Later Carter visits Jonas and asks him whether he wants to leave the base with SG-1. He happily agrees and they go to Area 51. There they are confronted with the newly built X-302. They are informed about several technical facts of the ship and that the ship also has a hyperspace engine. O'Neill doesn't want to make the test flight with it (because of the incident with the X-301).
At Stargate Command, O'Neill meets with General Hammond and Col. Chekov, who wants a Russian as the new fourth member of SG-1; O'Neill denies the proposal. Carter discusses the X-302 with Jonas, who admits that he wants to be a member of SG-1. Jonas then trains with Teal'c and they talk about O'Neill's mistrust in him; they agree that Teal'c should talk with O'Neill. When Teal'c talks with his Colonel, O'Neill claims that Jonas is an alien, which Teal'c doesn't like. Suddenly the alarm sounds and Bra'tac arrives. He tells Teal'c that Drey'auc is ill and they both go through the gate. Jonas later talks with Sam about Teal'c, when suddenly the gate is dialled. For over 38 minutes, the maximum amount of time a stargate should be open, nothing seems to arrive through. They later find out that the energy of the gate is rapidly rising.
On Chulak, Teal'c talks with Bra'tac about the situation when an angry Rya'c leaves a tent and reveals that his mother is dead, much to Teal'c's shock. He then talks with Rya'c, who at first wants to kill him but then starts to beat him down. Bra'tac stops him after some time but he is still angry. Drey'auc is later burned and Teal'c then talks with his son, who is still angry but finally starts to cry.
At SGC, Carter reveals that the energy continually rises and that the gate will eventually explode, which will even cause the destruction of Earth. Later Dr. Rodney McKay appears because he is ordered to help. While Col. Chekov is angry that there is nothing they can do, Carter tells them that the X-302 will soon be ready so that they can contact the Asgard. O'Neill and Carter then prepare to start with X-302 but Jonas and McKay tell Hammond that the hyperspace engine won't work because of the instability of the naqahdriah. They nevertheless start and all looks good but when they want to enter hyperspace they miss the window and the mission is cancelled.
In the meantime, back on Chulak, a Jaffa comes with a Tel'tak and reveals that Anubis is going to attack Earth's Stargate. They start to dial the worlds which belong to Anubis and finally find out which world the weapon is on.
Back at SGC, Carter discusses what went wrong with the ship but they can only assume what caused the problem. O'Neill later talks with Carter but she doesn't know what to do. Suddenly the lights start to flash and when they both enter the gate room, a hologram of Anubis appears. The Goa'uld tells them in a very dramatic way that they will all be destroyed soon, much to O'Neill's annoyance.

Dr. McKay talks with Major Carter about the situation, when McKay has the idea of using an EMP. General Hammond allows him to proceed, despite Carter's protest. She also presents the problems with that plan, but Hammond orders her to work with McKay. The plan is finally carried out, but it doesn't work. Suddenly lightning strikes from the machine. When Carter closes the iris, she is struck down.
On the Jaffa world, they find out where Anubis has positioned the weapon and together with Rya'c they use a Tel'tak to go there. The planet is guarded by Ha'taks, who detect the cloaked cargo ship and thus Teal'c, Bra'tac and Rya'c ring down to the planet, where they attack the Jaffa. During the battle however Rya'c is wounded. They then hide because there are many guards and patrolling Death gliders. The three Jaffa then find the weapon (which is of Ancient origin) and while Rya'c has to stay hidden the two adults go to the weapon. However the weapon is protected by a force field.
At SGC, Carter's wounds are treated in the infirmary and she is visited by McKay who apologizes to her and tells her about his past. It is also revealed that the time until the explosion is cut in half, as Carter had predicted. Later Carter visits Jonas who looks at the Stargate and asks her how the Stargate came in. This gives Carter an idea. She tells the scientists there to use the X-302 to fling the Stargate into space, and all of them start working. Hammond later talks with Colonel Chekov about the use of their Stargate, but the Russians demand a lot in return.
On Anubis' planet, Teal'c and Bra'tac are caught by Jaffa and questioned but they keep silent. They then ask for Rya'c, which makes Teal'c angry. Rya'c later overhears what will happen with Teal'c and Bra'tac. He then goes to a place with ships and steals a Death glider. Afterwards, he attacks the Jaffa guarding Teal'c and Bra'tac, who then free themselves. He then attacks the weapon, and despite being hit by another glider, he destroys the weapon.
On Earth, Carter tells O'Neill what he has to do and that there are problems because the fighter wasn't built for something like this. The ship was not designed to carry anything as heavy as the stargate which weighs 32 tons. They also talk about Jonas. At the base a scientist tells O'Neill more about the plan and he then sees the X-302 mounted on a plane because so many systems, including the liftoff propulsion system, had to be removed to save weight. Due to problems, the rocket cannot achieve the proper altitude to exit the atmosphere and O'Neill is forced to hit the after-burners too soon and cannot achieve escape velocity; the fighter starts to sink. While O'Neill can't do anything, McKay suggests sinking the gate in the ocean.
Back on Earth, Jonas suggests using the hyperspace engine, but they don't know what will happen if they are used inside the atmosphere. They nevertheless plan to do it and only open a hyperspace window for about one second, long enough to transport the X-302 far enough away from the Earth that the stargate's explosion is harmless. They carry out the plan successfully and O'Neill also ejects in time, much to the joy of the others.
Later, McKay leaves and says goodbye to Carter while O'Neill talks with Hammond. They are then contacted by Teal'c, who informs them that the weapon was destroyed. Later, the gate from the Russians is installed and, although they want a Russian member at SG-1, O'Neill decides to take Jonas in, who then leaves with the team on his first mission.

- This episode features a brand new opening sequence, with various shots of the gate spinning, and Michael Shanks' name being removed to make way for Corin Nemec's in between Christopher Judge and Don S. Davis.
- There was an intentional goof in the 18th minute of the episode: a monitor displayed the time that the wormhole had been active, but its reflection was not reflected mirror-inverted in the briefing room window, but displayed forwardly. On the DVD, the writers revealed that this was done on purpose so that the viewer would have a concept of the time running out even when the timer wasn't in shot.
- This episode ended the SG-1 tradition of beginning a new season with the conclusion to a two part episode.

- The X-303, later known as the Prometheus, is first mentioned in passing in this episode. General Hammond comments that they were required to give the Russian the plans for the X-303 in exchange for the use of their Stargate.
- From this episode onwards, Russia is given periodic cash payments and the plans to the X-302 in exchange for leasing the gate to the United States. On-screen, Russia has never made any use of these plans. However, in Season 9, they use their ownership of the Stargate to pressure the United States into giving them the ownership of a BC-304 from the Americans. They name it the Korolev after Soviet rocket engineer Sergey Korolyov. It was, however, destroyed shortly after being commissioned during the Battle of P3Y-229.
- As the X-302 is preparing to travel through hyperspace to Abydos, the glyph markings on its screen show the constellations Sagitarrius and Orion in the wrong places.
