Reading Racers (known as the Reading Bulldogs for 2006 and part of 2007 Season), is an English motorcycle speedway team. The team shares Smallmead Stadium, in Reading, Berkshire, with Reading Greyhound Racing track. The Racers were accepted to ride in the Premier League in 2008.[1]

[edit] Racers to Bulldogs and back again
When Reading Racers were elevated into the Elite League back in 2006 the new promotion changed the well-known club name to the Reading Bulldogs. However after mounting problems – mostly financial – the club were taken over again in June 2007 and reverted to their original Reading Racers name.[2] Tim Sugar replaced Jim Lynch as team manager, and Malcolm Holloway became the club's new promoter. It has was confirmed at the time of the takeover that Reading would see out the remaining fixtures of the 2007 season in the Elite League.[3]
[edit] Stadium plans
Reading speedway announced plans for new stadium at Island Road, Reading which could see them move midseason. A new complex featuring greyhound racing, and a casino as well as speedway has been given the go ahead by the local council and may be open by June 2008. The new track will be ten meters longer than their current track at Smallmead, which has been their home for the last thirty-two years (which was always intended to be a temporary track but the new stadium never got built).[4]
