[edit] Mountain King Studios

Did really Mountain King Studios develop this game? I see different answers when i google for it. 129.177.138.102

I was a little surprised to read that Raptor wasn't a 100% Apogee game (developed and published by), so I searched for Mountain King Studios and found their webpage, and their about page says that they developed it. Since there was nothing to contradict this on Apogee's Raptor page I figured it was true. I noted that initialy Apogee was listed as the developer and MKS as the publisher, this seemed wrong to me since this would be the only game (that I know of) that Apogee developed but not published. So if you have any further info to add, what I wrote was by no means the last word. Qutezuce 20:17, August 22, 2005 (UTC)

Mountain King Studios was originally Cygnus Studios. After changing their name, they ported the game's main executable to Windows and removed the Backspace cheat. The save files and game data files were unchanged, so the player can move saved games to the Windows version. This allows a workaround to the removal of the Backspace cheat. Create a pilot in the DOS version, start the game, hit Backspace then abort the mission and save. Copy the saved game to the folder where the Windows version is and load it. you now have several Death Ray weapons. Sell all but one and pig out on weaponry you couldn't otherwise purchase so soon. The super hard mode with the indestructable monkies is in both DOS and Windows versions. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.136.145.241 (talk) 08:33, 10 December 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Plasmaray Vs. Deathray.

Which is the correct name for this weapon? Are there different versions of Raptor or something (such as American and British)? If there are different versions, in my version, this weapon is called the "Plasmaray", but here it's called the "Deathray". Is there a difference? Acalamari 23:04, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Backspace cheat

Why shouldn't the backspace key cheat be mentioned in this article? The cheat was specifically mentioned in the user's manual of the Apogee/Cygnus release. The hardcore icon the sandman 02:45, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

The backspace cheat is official information, and I'm sure it's correct. That's not the problem. According to the Wikipedia Guidelines, scope of gaming articles and WP:NOT#GUIDE, some specific game material simplfy doesn't belong in Wikipedia. In general (see the links for more info), the rule is that if some information is only useful for someone playing the game, it doesn't belong in Wikipedia. In this case, the cheat and the information on what it does is only useful for someone playing the game, so according to Wikipedia guidelines, it doesn't belong here. Maybe a general comment on the game containing cheats for registered users is appropiate for wikipedia; but the kind of detail on the backspace cheat is not. There are other wikis where this kind of information is appropiate, GamerWiki I think, GameFAQs.com, etc. Sega381 02:58, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Ah okay, I read the guidelines on it, I got it now, Thanks. The hardcore icon the sandman 03:28, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

For seekers of easter eggs, I started the game today and found that the Apogee theme was replaced by the designers' slightly drunken chanted rendition. This is Jim M.'s birthday. --Kizor 01:30, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Isn't saying "Nonetheless, Raptor is still considered far more polished and realistic-looking. At its release, Raptor had the best graphics of any scrolling shooter to date, and despite over a decade since its release, the graphics are still considered good quality." and referring to a highly subjective review quite non-NPOV? I'm removing that statement. 90.231.50.62 (talk) 16:15, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
