Randall W. "Randy" Spetman (born 1953) is the athletic director for the Florida State Seminoles athletic program at Florida State University, having served in this role since 2008. Spetman has also been the director of athletics at Utah State University and the United States Air Force Academy. On February 4th of 2008, Spetman agreed to a multi-year contract with FSU, and expressed his intention to focus on the athletics & academics of the athletes who are attending Florida State University.[1] He is currently the second Vice President of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

Spetman was born and raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1976. While at the Academy, he earned three varsity letters as a defensive end for the Falcons football team and was a team captain as a senior. He also won a pair of heavyweight championships in the Academy's annual Wing Open Boxing tournament. Spetman has a Master's Degree in Management from Central Michigan University, and a Master's degree in National Security Strategy from the Naval War College.

After graduation from the Academy, Spetman spent 28 year in the United States Air Force as a pilot. A command pilot with more than 3,000 hours of flight time, Spetman served in a range of positions, including assistant football coach at his alma mater; Chief of Bomber Planning in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm; and Chief of the Command and Control Division, Operations Directorate of the United States European Command in Stuttgart, Germany. His final career assignment was as the athletic director at the Academy.

Prior to joining the Seminoles' organization, Spetman was the athletic director at Utah State University from 2003 to 2008. Under Spetman's leadership, Utah State joined the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in 2005 and claimed four conference championships in its first two years. USU's student-athletes lead the WAC with a 78 percent graduation rate and have maintained over a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.[2]

Spetman also oversaw several facility projects, including improvements to the football stadium and the development of a $12.5 million facility that will benefit 16 intercollegiate sports at the University. Spetman also developed a partnership for medical health coverage for USU student-athletes that improved care and reduced medical costs.[3]

Prior to Utah State, Spetman spent eight successful years (1996-2003) as director of athletics at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. During Spetman's tenure, athletics teams at the Academy enjoyed unmatched success as the football team participated in four bowl games, and the men's basketball team advanced to its first-ever NCAA Tournament.
