Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA) is the world’s largest interpretive museum design firm. Founded in 1978 by Ralph Appelbaum, RAA has more than 100 specialists working in offices in New York City, London and Beijing.[1] On the staff are planners, designers, media and technology specialists, writers and architects who specialize in history and science museums.
RAA has won more than 130 design awards, among them the Presidential Award for Design Excellence, the Federal Design Achievement Award and “Designs of the Decade” from the Industrial Designers Society of America.[citation needed] RAA has completed more than 250 planning and design commissions in 31 States of the United States and in 21 countries. Over 85 permanent museums, visitors centers, exhibitions and environments are visited each year by over 30,000,000 people.[citation needed]
Two of their most visible projects were the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C.[1] and the Newseum.[2]
