Rajah Solaiman Movement
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rajah Solaiman Movement is a terrorist organization founded by Ahmed Santos after he converted to Islam [1]. Its membership consists of Filipino Christians who have converted to Islam and it is now one of the top worries for Philippines' intelligence services. [2]. According to Filipino authorities, the group's members have been trained, financed and directed by Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiah, a regional terrorist group with links to Al Qaeda [2].
The group is named after Rajah Solaiman, the last king of Manila before the Spanish conquest in the 1500s, which introduced Catholicism along with European rule [2]. Similar to Abu Sayyaf, the converts belonging to this group claim they want to remake the country into an Islamic state. [2]
