[edit] Portal History
As one of the very first Internet Portals, the Quote.com developed individual user profiles to specify information based upon inputs supplied like stock symbols or relevant news content. News streaming for each stock tied to a user profile along with charting, weather and other types of information became a web standard expectation for portals in general very quickly.
In December 1994 the founder was introduced web content from a number of companies, like Freese-Notis Weather for commodities oriented weather that was displayed for users early in the following year. Like many parts of Quote.com, the weather section uniquely combined exchange symbols with the relevant parts of the forecast for commodities traders. Some other types of value added plays including QCharts, a web application that allowed for real-time quote charts allowing for viewing price histories via the custom application.
Yahoo became one of the first major deals in the Internet space by working with Quote.com to create a financial adjunct at the time called, quote.yahoo.com. This provided some key technology to one the key parts of what would eventually be transformed away from a deal with Quote.com into Yahoo Finance after the initial success was proven by combining many of the ideas pioneered on the main site earlier, like portfolios associated to a specific user login.
